Top Skin Care Tips for Winter Holidays
On 24th December 2016 by Rabab KelaniHolidays are around the corners and many are going to spend it in cold destinations. And let’s face it- Winter weather is not good for skin especially when it is exposed to sudden climate change like moving from hot weather to cold. It is very harsh to the skin. Cold temperature and dry air tend to dry skin out of its natural oils, leaving it dry and tired.
Sadly, not only the sudden climate change that has a harsh effect on our skin, the stress around the holidays, long flights, changes in sleep and dietary routines also. All these factors can cause a breakout, dullness and, dehydration.
You can assist your skin by adding extra precautions to your daily skincare routine. Try these Skin Care Tips for Winter Holidays:
1. Skincare starts on board
Especially for long flight travelers, never wear any makeup on an airplane and make sure to keep your skin clean and moisturized once wheels are up. Pack a travel-size skincare kit in your cabin bag that contains Thermal Water spray, moisturizer, eye cream and lip balm. And try to make use of these moisturizing and soothing products as much as you can during your journey.
2. Exfoliate
It is very important to Exfoliate your skin within the first 24 hours of your arrival. Exfoliation brings back the healthy glow that is often lost during long flights.
3. A Nourishing Cleanser is the key
Cleanser can dry your skin out and strip its natural oils. I usually opt for a milk nourishing cleanser during cold weather that preserves skin’s natural moisture barrier.
4. Moisturize frequently
A normal moisturizer works well in normal to hot weather. But in cold climate, I like to apply an “Oinment” type of moisturizer that’s oil-based, rather than water-based, as the oil will create a protective layer on the skin that retains more moisture than a cream or lotion.
5. Scrub and moisturize your lips
Chapped lips are one of skin problems in cold days. I like to scrub my lips with some sugar and coconut oil to get rid of that flaky dry skin, then follow up by applying a nourishing lip balm.
6. Don’t Forget your Sunscreen.
Although Winter weather appears to be less sunny. But remember those harmful UV rays are still out there. Take your sunscreen and try to use it during your day while you are trekking or sightseeing.
7. Drink Water
Keep yourself hydrated by drinking at least 2 liters of water daily. And minimize drinking caffeine drinks as it tends to dry skin out.
8. Protect your hands
Our hands suffer the most in cold weather. I always make sure to carry a moisturizer with me and apply regularly. I wear also gloves to protect my hands from the harsh cold weather.
I hope that you find these simple tips as the best holiday gift for your skin. Enjoy your holiday and have a merry Christmas and happy new year Xx
